Tegna (knit) - Wednesdays, beginning August 21

This oversized, drapey, easy-to-wear sweater is worked from the bottom up using fingering weight yarn. The project is worked in the round and then splits at the sleeves. Tegna would be a nice summer/early fall wardrobe addition and is suitable for someone without a lot of garment construction experience.

Skills taught in this class:

  • Basic lace (lace chart as well as written instructions
  • Short row shaping
  • Picking up stitches

Required materials:
  • Pattern - Tegna by Caitlin Hunter ($7.00)
  • Yarn (purchased separately at 3 Kittens) - 760-1300 yards fingering weight yarn. Please refer to pattern measurements to choose size and for yarn requirements.
  • Needles - US 2-5/2.75-3.75mm 9-12" circulars and US 3-7/3.0-4.5mm 32-47" circular or size to obtain gauge*
  • Notions - knit kit, including st markers, highlighter tape

  • Please complete a swatch as follows - Cast on 80 sts with US 5; work in stockinette st for 4" or 40 rows. Block. Bring to first class.

Meets 5x

* Note from Shelley re gauge - "The pattern calls for needle size 3 for the main body and 2 for the neckline, but also warns that many knitters had to go up a number of sizes to get gauge. I used a US 7 for the main body and a US 6 for the neckline. My suggestion is to start your swatch using a US 5 and go from there." If you would like to discuss the swatching process for this project, please call the shop and ask for Shelley.

Cancellation Policy - Student cancellations must be made at least two weeks prior to the first session to receive a refund for the class fee. After that date, class fees are not refundable and cannot be transferred to another class. Any yarn or supplies purchased for the class are also not refundable. 3 Kittens will only cancel a class if no students have signed up; however, we may need to reschedule due to weather or illness.

Skill Level: intermediate
Skill Details: Students should be able to read a pattern; know how to fix minor mistakes; understand gauge; know basic increases/decreases/YO; know how to work in the round
